Gestalt Based Psychotherapy

My wish is to support people in connecting authentically with their deeper selves so that from this place of connectedness they can live more joyful and happy lives.

I use a nonjudgemental relational approach, creating a warm, therapeutic, safe, and supportive setting. I bring sensitivity providing the space to explore the aspects of life that my clients wish to attend to.

I draw on aspects of meditation and mindfulness in my work. I am passionate about my own yoga and meditation practice and I believe in the healing power of mindfulness on mental, physical health, and well-being. These practices help me to stay calm, centered, and present.

My education includes an M.A. in Integral Counseling Psychology from CIIS (California Institute of Integral Studies), an M.B.A. from Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, and an undergraduate degree in Computer Science.

I was born and raised on a farm in South East Ireland and I come to counseling after almost twenty years in software and technology consulting.

What Is Gestalt Therapy?
Gestalt therapy is a client-centered approach to psychotherapy that helps clients focus on the present and understand what is really happening in their lives right now, rather than what they may perceive to be happening based on past experience. Instead of simply talking about past situations, clients are encouraged to experience them, perhaps through re-enactment. Through the gestalt process, clients learn to become more aware of how their own negative thought patterns and behaviors are blocking true self-awareness and making them unhappy.

When It's Used?
Gestalt therapy can help clients with issues such as anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationship difficulties, and even physical ones like migraine headaches, ulcerative colitis, and back spasms. Good candidates for gestalt therapy are those who are interested in working on their self-awareness but may or may not understand the role they play in their own unhappiness and discomfort.

Life is a mysterious winding journey. I believe that sharing and working through the issues that are alive and relevant in life is a healing and transformative experience. I have faith that the answers to our deepest questions are found within and that by opening to the transformative journey of healing, we can uncover them together.

My wish is to help you understand yourself more deeply and to facilitate your connection with your own inners guide.

I am an active member of the Bay Area Gestalt Institute (BAGI). The mission of BAGI is to promote healing, aliveness, and authenticity in our communities and society at large by teaching and providing Gestalt psychotherapy to our clients, colleagues, and interns.
